When a user or device makes too many incorrect login attempts, the public (WAN) IP address of the internet connection used by the device will be banned temporarily by 3CX. This function forms an integral part of 3CX's Intrusion Detection System (IDS).
Sometimes, 3CX may ban an honest user who has simply forgotten their password.
Remove a Blacklisted IP Address
You will need a user account with 3CX Management Console access for these steps. Please contact us if you need to get set up.
1. Log in to the 3CX Management Console.
2. Navigate to Security → IP Blacklist.
3. In the table, find the IP address that you want to unblock. Note that if it is blocked, you will see Deny in the Action column of the corresponding row.
4. Click the X button for the IP address to remove from the blacklist.
Whitelist an IP Address
You will need a user account with 3CX Management Console access for these steps. Please contact us if you need to get set up.
If you want to take it one step further, you can permanently whitelist an IP address. In other words, users at the specified IP address can never be banned, provided the IP address does not change. It is good practice to whitelist your office's IP address, for example.
1. Log in to the 3CX Management Console.
2. Navigate to Security → IP Blacklist.
3. Click +Add.
4. Type your internet connection's public IP address into the Network address (Network ID) field. To find your public IP, click here.
5. Set Action to Allow.
6. Type a useful Description for the entry. For example, "Sydney Office" or "Jane Doe Home Office".
7. Click OK to complete whitelisting the IP address.
